Our residence, formerly known as “Le Château des Darbonnets”, was built in 1830 by Catherine SOULLIER, the widow of a notable from Pont de Vaux, as a summer residence. After her death, her granddaughter (Leonie Marie) Rose SOULLIER inherited the house. After becoming a widow at a young age, she married Henri LENORMAN, a pianist and organist of the cathedral of Macon. It became the center of an artistic and influential family. Rose had six children, including Marie Louise. One of her daughters was the writer/ poet Marguerite BOURCET. She wrote her first novel here in 1922 and later published around fifteen works. She described the estate as an idyllic park designed by a landscape architect. Marguerite's sister, Rose-Marie, married pharmacist René FOUCHÉ, the inventor of the famous herbal tea Boldoflorine and a pioneer in radio advertising. Chavannes-sur-Reyssouze is located near Pont-de-Vaux, a hidden gem in the green heart of the Bresse Bourguignonne. This charming village is situated on the peaceful banks of the Saône and serves as an ideal base to enjoy nature, gastronomy, and authentic French village life. In the immediate surroundings, you'll find picturesque cycling routes through water and fields, lively weekly markets, and cozy terraces where you can sample local specialties such as the famous Bresse chicken.
