These places give you an excellent view of the rich history and heritage of the area around Chavannes-sur-Reyssouze: from medieval villages and castles to religious buildings and museums that depict local life in earlier times.

Chateau de Mareste in Chavannes - sur - Reyssouze

Directly in the village you will find this historic castle, with roots dating back to the Middle Ages. Originally there was a commandery of the Order of Saint John. The facades and roofs are registered as a historic monument.

Cave van Viré (15 minutes)

Since 1928, Cave de Viré has produced fruity and elegant white wines made exclusively from the Chardonnay grape. Today it takes pride in its Viré-Clessé village appellation and contributes to its reputation through numerous vintages per plot that express the full potential of its exceptional terroir. It also produces other appellations such as Mâcon-Blanc, Mâcon-Villages and Crémant de Bourgogne.

Abdij van Cluny (40 minutes)

Just 40 minutes from Chavannes-sur-Reyssouze you will find the legendary Abbey of Cluny, once the center of European Benedictine monks. This imposing monastery is a historic monument and offers a glimpse into the religious and cultural life of the Middle Ages.

Weekmarkt Louhans (30 minutes)

Louhans is a charming town known for its historic charm and is the gateway to the Bresse region. The market hall of Louhans is one of the main sights of the town. This iconic, covered hall from the 19th century has 157 iron columns and is a beautiful example of industrial architecture. Every Monday there is a lively market where you can buy local products, especially meat from the Bresse region.

Klooster de Brou in Bourg-en-Bresse (45 minutes)

One of the most impressive monuments in the region. This monastery complex from the 16th century was built in flamboyant Gothic style, founded by Margaret of Austria.

Museum van Revermont (45 minutes)

The museum lets you discover the daily life of the region from the 18th century to today: classrooms from the 19th century, toys, old photographs… In addition, there is a historic herb garden with many old plant species.

Lyon (1,5 uur)

This city is easily accessible and worth a visit! For a day trip, you need to choose from the many highlights the city offers, such as the iconic Basilica, located on the hill of Fourvière, which offers not only a spiritual experience but also a breathtaking view over the city of Lyon. The interior is decorated with beautiful mosaics and paintings. The historic center, Old Lyon, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is full of charming Renaissance architecture, hidden streets and traboules (secret passages). It is the perfect place to walk and enjoy the unique atmosphere. Finally, we highly recommend the Halls Paul Bocuse. The culinary hotspot of Lyon! Here you can enjoy the best local products and delicacies, such as cheeses, charcuterie and wines. A must-visit for every gastronome.

Geneva, located on the beautiful Lake Geneva and surrounded by the Alps, is a city that is rich in both culture and history. The most famous sights of Geneva are the Jet d'eau. This impressive fountain shoots water up to 140 meters high into the air and is visible from many parts of the city and the lake. Here too, naturally, a historic center, the Old Town, with its narrow streets and charming squares. Visit St. Pierre Cathedral with its impressive Gothic architecture and climb the tower for a panoramic view of the city. Finally, the United Nations Geneva is the European headquarters of the United Nations and one of the most prestigious international buildings in Geneva. Visitors can take tours and learn more about Geneva's role in world politics. It is best to buy a Tolsticker at the border.
